Which directions of translation are most in demand today?

Today, translators work in different directions. Their tasks are very diverse and have different requirements regarding knowledge and skills. Different subjects, genres, languages, as well as written this translation or oral, require from translators the accuracy and completeness of the translations, respectively, different. In order to understand which direction is the most urgent today, it is necessary to understand all.

In the modern translation world, there are two main classifications of translations: genre-stylistic, by the nature of translated texts and psycholinguistic, which shows the actions of the interpreter directly when working with texts.

According to the first classification, all translations are divided into literary and specialized. Literary translation includes, translation of fiction and free-style texts. The main purpose of this translation, the provision of text in a foreign language without loss of semantic meaning. Such translations are primarily of an aesthetic purpose and should enthrall the reader. In this direction, it is important not to lose the semantic thread and not to use your own additions, so as not to “overload” the text. A literary translator must possess linguistic and stylistic skills, in addition to an ideal knowledge of foreign languages.

Specialized translation – translation of texts of special purpose. Such texts contain information of a technical and specialized nature. They use a large number of specialized terminology, and have a narrow focus. Translation of such texts is intended for specialists of different fields of knowledge. Translators who work with such texts should know the specialized terminology and have knowledge of the profile area of translation.

Psycholinguistic classification includes interpretation and translation and takes into account the nature of the translator’s actions in the process of working on the texts and takes into account the way the translator interprets the original text.

The oral direction of the translation includes the transmission of the text in an oral, non-fixed form. With this translation process, the translator can only hear the source text once and perform a translation into a foreign language without interruption and the opportunity, something to correct or rephrase. Translators who work with this direction should have an ideal memory and have a wide vocabulary, since it does not have the ability to analyze the text. Most often this direction of translation can be found at conferences, international negotiations, etc.

Translation – interpretation of the text in a foreign language. This kind of work of the translator, allows you to analyze the source and output texts and make corrections if necessary. When making such a transfer, an employee of translation agency has the opportunity to resort to the help of dictionaries or consultants in difficult situations. Such texts can always be edited and amended. Translators working with the translation must have knowledge in the subject area, understand the phonetic and stylistic features of the text construction, and also have the knowledge in at least one language pair.

For any direction of translation, a specialist should not only know the language and understand the material, but also must take into account the cultural, religious and dialectical features of the target audience for which the output text is intended. Understanding how idioms and acronyms are translated also plays an important role. The task of an interpreter is to not offend the reader or listener, to correctly present the output material and to interest the person who needs this information.

Currently, each of the directions of translation plays an important role. With the constant development of international relations, the number of documents to be submitted in a foreign language is growing and requires qualified translators. Contracts, marketing information, technical documentation should be translated into target languages. Concerning the interpretation, it can be said that no international meeting or conference is complete without the participation of an experienced interpreter, thanks to whose work international agreements are concluded, and they in turn require the participation of a translator. Such a direction as an artistic or literary translation has lost some of its relevance, in its original purpose. The amount of literature that requires translation has decreased. Therefore, to date, we can safely say that the leading directions in translation are written and oral translations.

Such a direction as a specialized translation has every chance to take a leading position. This is due to mass enthusiasm for modern technologies and developments.
